People ask me why I foster. This letter from the rescuer of our newest pup sums it up perfectly. Katie and Kathryn: You made me cry- and I dont cry easily. Thank you SO MUCH for opening your home and heart to these girls- Thelma and her sister were just two more abandoned pups on the Navajo reservation, collected and brought to me for foster. They both had demodex mange and were not immediately adoptable. After a few weeks of tx for mange they looked and felt great, but were already marginally too old to place as cute little puppies. Most of my cattle dog fosters go to Az Cattle Dog Rescue (fantastic rescue) but this year they (and so many other rescues) have been inundated with intakes, and could not immediately accept Thelma and Louise. Because so many of my usual rescue contacts were also overloaded, these girls (and many others) languished here, getting bigger with no prospects for placement and were placed on the list to be put down. When I reached out to Rez Dawg for help I had 34 dogs/ pups in foster. I had to turn down the opportunity to take 17 more puppies from Navajo Nation Animal Control because I had no more space/ resources to take them in. They were killed within hours of AC getting them, because no one locally could step up and pull them, and Thelma and Louise were on that list. This past weekend, Rez Dawg found placement/ fosters for 18 of my available dogs. Without committed foster homes this simply cant happen. My pups need much more attention/ affection than I can provide here. I know they are in good hands when they move into caring foster environments like yours. Every dog that moves out from here makes an opening for others in need. Thank you.
