People, before you get outraged over a soundbite, realize there are folks whose job it is to emotionally trigger you. They are professionals at provoking an emotional and stupid response from you. Add to that, there are even more amateurs out there going for the same effect. Realize that a soundbite is a deliberately chosen limited data point -- usually taken out of context and picked to get particular emotional reaction by playing on your biases. This especially when it is surrounded by editorializing, and a deliberately inflaming title. And the people who are most likely to fall for it are those who think theyre too smart to fall for it. Train yourself to start noticing it. First by looking at what the other side puts out. Its easier to see the manipulation and spin when you dont agree. But then turn around and apply to those sources you agree with. Given your previous practice, youll be able to see it there too.
