People can judge us and call us all sorts of names, but we - TopicsExpress

People can judge us and call us all sorts of names, but we Atheists are most likely the most peaceful people in the world, because theres no religion we hold so dear that wed kill or die for it. History is littered with endless examples of religious groups killing to protect their religion. The Roman Catholic Church in the past has killed radicals who have dared to differ with the Bible. Scientists, philosophers, artists and all those termed by the Church as heretics have died in the hands of a Church that centuries later, when science proved true what the likes of Gallileo Galilei were ex-communicated by the church for claiming, apologised for its actions. The same is true of Islamists/Muslims. They too have plunged the world into terror with their fundamentalism, killing in the name of Allah. The brutal slaughtering of staff members of French satirist magazine, Charlie Hebdo, in Paris a few days ago, and the harrassment that the publication has suffered in the hands of fundamentalists, is but an illustration of how far people go in defense of their religions. And yet the world has the audacity to declare those of us who dont believe in any God as mindless. But is there anything more mindless than killing someone over a cartoon? The world claims that we Atheists are people without morals. But is there any morality to a Church that tormented Galilei for claiming that the earth is spherical and revolves around the sun, proving false the unscientific assertions of a Bible riddled with contradictions? At the risk of inviting attacks, I say without any fear of contradiction that we Atheists are the most peaceful people in the world. We dont even impose our ideas on people the way some Christian denominations (eg Mormons and Seventh Day Adventists) do by having the audacity to knock on our doors in our private homes. We dont do anything except dare to think differently. Thats our only crime, and if its one I must do time for, then by all means, take me to the guillotine...
