Mums Funeral is in Waihi New Zealand this Coming Saturday at 11.30am 16th Nov 2013 A Eulogy for My Mother -- Edith Dorothy Beryl Goodenough -- By Dave Goodenough My Name is David – The Youngest of the Family. Thank you one an all for being here today to celebrate my most Wonderful Mother. My Brother Syd – Will be Reading this on my Behalf . This isnt something they teach in school. Chances are you havent seriously thought about this until this very moment – So Please Bear with him – He’s my Bro I am 50 years old but I still hear Mum’s voice inside my head saying, “Don’t go out in the cold with wet hair,” To Pat – Mate what Can I say – You are the Rock of Gibraltar – You have been Part of Mums Life – For so Long Now. I never hesitate in calling you Dad. I wish I could be there to Comfort you in this time. You are truly AWESOME. I honestly do not know how I can adequately describe our mom with words. She lived her life in the most positive way. She saw the good in everything and encouraged others to do the same. She was a true role model. A person who possessed qualities we should all try to imitate Mum taught me to have a sense of humour about everything, no matter how sad. It Still Doesn’t Seem Real to Me. It Still Doesn’t Seem Right to Me. But Mum you brought me into this World, and you have made it GREAT Place --- I will always cherish the Values You Brought to Me LOVE = RESPECT - LAUGHTER - WORK HARD - LOOK AFTER YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS NO MATTER WHAT She was always there when we needed her – I for one – for a Period of time. Acknowledge for a Period of time, Mum would write to me Every Week. And of recent times – Phone me almost every Week. Unconditional Love. Countless hours of Elvis Music Bing Crosby – Dean Martin At Christmas Time in New Zealand Coronation Street – The Weekly Torture of having to watch on TV inflected whilst growing up Picking You Up at 4.30 Everyday after School in Te Atatu North The Little Stickers and Envelopes that Arrived Every Xmas and Birthdays whilst living in Aussie Drinking Ya Warm Beer, and your Odd Drink of Champayne That Infectious Smile and Laugh The Saturday Morning Horse Sratching’s -- And putting the Odd $$ on the GG’s As for her life with Dad, she set a shining example of the kind of unconditional love which was required to see a marriage through Good Times and Bad Will be a Treasured Memory. She set the Same example for you Pat – My Second Dad. As much as Id like to think I was Moms favourite child, I know she truly didnt have one. We were all her favourite in one way or another. Syd Greg Carol I am truly Sorry for our Loss today. It’s a Privilege to have you as Family To all your families – Mum is a tragic loss, but also – She is a GREAT GREAT GREAT Memory for your Childrens Lifetimes. For my Daughter Chantel – The first Australian Born Grand Child – The Last of the line of Cousins Nana G – as she is known – knows you heard her the other nite whilst talking to her on the Phone, She knows you will Look after Grand Dad Pat. Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless I feel like I could stand up here all day speaking about my mother. She was an amazing woman who taught me a lot. The most important lessons were not verbal; they were in her actions. She always worked hard, never complained and was there when you needed her. She was my mother, but also my Best Friend. My lasting memories of Mum are simple: a hard-working, passionate figure of strength who never waned in her support or love of her family, and who soldiered on, even when times were tough. It is a great privilege to write this eulogy to express the sadness that all of us share over her loss. Mum, thank you for everything you’ve given us – and the warmth we shared during your precious time on earth. God bless you. Always. I will miss her every day for as long as I live.
