People have asked me by phone, whatsapp, email, facebook, face-to-face and what ever means possible why i have lately been firm and principled on the Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Youth and Sports. They claim my write-ups are very critical. My answer has consistently been very simply. Football in Ghana is a conduit to milk the people and impoverish them. I tell them, when i start the long journey from Kumasi to my hometown of Sandema in the Upper East, i see poverty. I see lack of a future for the people. I see hunger, i see gloom and hopelessness. I see women and kids exposed to the vagaries of despondency. I see despair and hoplessness. I see girls sleep on the floor in the secondary schools, i see teachers having no accommodation, i see girls engage in prostitution to help make ends meet, i see HIV AIDS prevelence rise, i see young men turn drunkards, i see girls thrown into teenage marriages, i see graduates jobless, i see armed robbery and drug abuse on the increase. And my heart bleeds. I ponder over what i see when i drive this long journey and i imagine why football people continue to steal from our national coffers. I know as a sports and political journalist that in the last 10 years of the Kwesi Nyantakyi led GFA administration millions and millions of American dollars have gone into football with nothing to show for. I have wondered also why governments continue to rob Peter to pay Paul in this country. Those who see me as a critic should take a drive with me up north to Sandema and i bet, you will be more critical on this bunch of wicked football people than you think i have been. Never again should anybody steal from the people in the name of football. We will fight and soldier on till the people see hope. Folks, Thinking Unconentionally.
