People have suspicions regarding Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and his political moves go beyond that of a mere secretary says the Minister of National Languages and Social Integration Vasudeva Nanayakkara in an interview with a weekend newspaper. Speaking further Minister Nanayakkara has said the view is that Sinhalese hard line existed due to extremism. Muslims’ practices are conventional but they do not harm others. However, the Defense Secretary did not wait to find out those who began the anti-Muslim rhetoric and attacks were those who treated Muslim conventionalism as that needs to be opposed. As such, people suspect that such groups receive patronage from Gotabhaya Rajapaksa Mr. Nanayakkara had stated. The suspicion is confirmed from his statement that first it was Muslim extremism and the other side merely responded said Minister Nanayakkara. The Defense Secretary’s statement is not an amicable one said the Minister of National Languages and Social Integration and added, ‘He is a secretary, not a politician.
