People make a lot of suggestions to help those dealing with depression, anxiety, grief, and stress, and many of the suggestions have one thing in common: taking a time-out and finding your personal "reset button," whether it is by taking a walk, a bath or a nap, or by music, singing, and dancing. There seems to be growing scientific support for the proposition that sound itself - both music and certain rhythmic beats which are often included in music - can actually alter brain states. Yet often people judge someone who seeks out music, singing and dancing, as "not really depressed" or "not really grieving." How many of you have had experiences with music changing your mood in a significant way (not just for a few minutes)? Have any of you felt judged because of it?
