“People may take a job for more money, but they often leave it for more recognition.” ~Bob Nelson The fourth level of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is Esteem. “Self-esteem, confidence, achievement, respect of others, respect by others.” Considering we spend more time at work than we do with our families it is only logical that esteem is highly influenced by our work, work environment, co-workers and our leadership. If you are not recognizing your co-workers or your employees you are missing a great opportunity not only to increase their esteem but also influence them and increase their loyalty, commitment and productivity. Improve and increase the recognition you give. _ Set time aside each day or week think about who you need to recognize _ Write that person a personal note _ Call them and tell them _ Do it in person _ Do it in front of others _ Include your leadership _ Acknowledge the recognition they get from others. Take the time to watch this video by Chip Conley to see an example of how recognition is applied in his company. Chip Conley , Peak Leadership Coaching youtube/watch?v=_-OCojzXY8o&feature=related
