What this legislator said is turning cause and response head over heels. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A pro-Beijing [Hong Kong] legislator defended the police against accusations that they used excessive force in handling the street protests and blamed the student activists for using the umbrella as a weapon to attack the law enforcers. The umbrella has become a symbol of the city’s pro-democracy campaign, but for Leung Che-cheung, a legislator of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong, the umbrella is an “attack weapon” .... Leung said Wong Fei-hung, a famous Chinese martial arts hero, had used an umbrella in fighting the bad guys. Leung also said the protesters, who could be seen raising their hands during confrontations with the police, were actually adopting a fighting stance in the popular Wing Chun style of martial arts. “They are holding up both hands and kicking the police officers with their legs to injure them, and the public have to make a fair judgement on that,” he said. Leung said police have been “restrained and professional” in dealing with the protesters, adding that the tear gas is “useless weapon” which has failed to disperse the demonstrators.
