People need to understand that when it comes to Egyptology, there - TopicsExpress

People need to understand that when it comes to Egyptology, there are different schools within this larger field. There are two primary schools: i.e., the European school (German, French, English/American) and the African school (i.e., the Senegalese school, African-American school). The European school was established first, as it regards the study of ancient Egypt. The African school came later, in part, as a response to the European school. The African school challenges much of what the European school of Egyptology has developed in regards as a definitive interpretation of ancient Egyptian phenomena. As discussed below, by Dr. Rkhty Amen , one of the many challenges we face against the European school is the fundamental question of meaning in regards to ancient Egyptian words, concepts, motifs, and rituals. At 8:16 of the video below, Dr. Rkhty states specifically, in regards to her mdw nTr classes, what the African school of Kemet/Egyptology does in general, and that is to never take entries in Egyptological dictionaries at face value. In other words, just because something is defined as such in a European Egyptian dictionary, doesnt mean that that is what the word means. The African school of Kemetology (ciKam) explores and scrutinizes EVERY SINGLE entry in the dictionary, in comparison with other African languages, to get the more accurate and complete nuances of each lexeme to better understand ancient ciKam (Km.t). So when you see someone like me always attempting to verify in living African languages, words and concepts that we would find in ancient Egypt, this is the African Schools method. So saying that something is so just because its in a dictionary. Thats not good enough for us in the African school. You have to be able to demonstrate how and why a word means what it means, which means that you have to have a background in historical comparative linguistics. It is the only tool available that allows us to get at the heart of words in a systematic and scientific way. This is what separates us from the European school. I encourage everyone to listen to the entire video. https://youtube/watch?v=PXiouFRsZMc&list=PLBv1YzcTZYOfdvZbQ-dV8TcY9CQYzw3dB
