People of Facebook: Let me start by saying, Im not being - TopicsExpress

People of Facebook: Let me start by saying, Im not being hateful.....so dont take it that way. I want to take a moment to address, the status everyone keeps copying/pasting and posting concerning privacy on Facebook. Its a waste of your time, and heres why: When you joined Facebook, umpteen years ago, you acknowledged and signed a contractual agreement to allow Facebook use of your photos, status updates, and birthday, if listed. Most of you probably didnt read the User Agreement...which in fact was a contract. I read it fully because I happened to be reviewing contracts, at the time. Additionally, Im a nerd, and I enjoy reading contracts. 😎 ( I know...dont judge me) Heres why its not as big of a deal as you are afraid of. While you did basically sign your right to anything you post online away, Facebook doesnt have ill intentions to use your information. Theyre a publicly traded entity and it would be financial suicide, to misuse your information. Heres what your information is used for: 1. Facebooks own advertising. Remember those birthday reminders? Yeah...those Have you noticed those you may know Portion of your page? Thats where permission for your photo comes in. 2. Facebooks Advertising partners. Have you ever noticed those ads on the side that say, Jenny Sue likes Tide would you like to like Tide too? (Yep your profile picture and names being used. So dont like Hustler...unless its Hustler Turf Equipment...because everyone will know..even your Grandma, if she has a Facebook account) Have you ever noticed ads targeted to you? For instance your over 21, and you see an ad for Budweiser. This is where your age is being used. ***Heres what to do if youre concerned someone may misuse your information, or steal your photos. 1. Dont add people you dont actually know, in real life. ( Abimbola Bob Ackachi, from Zimbabwe, doesnt think youre cute...He wants to steal your photos, so he can pretend to be you and scam innocent folks....so dont add him...unless of course you actually KNOW Bob from Zimbabwe). 2. Review your own privacy settings. 3. Just dont post things you arent comfortable, with the World seeing.. ( If you have a moment and Rage vent on FB, go back and delete it...it will actually be gone, not visible, unless someone subpoenas it...) ***Again Please dont get upset, I didnt write this to be hurtful. My intent was to be helpful.****
