People often ask me how to work on aggression, resource guarding, or territorial issues between two dogs who live together. For these things the Place skill is worth its weight in gold. First I teach Place to each dog individually. Then I put both dogs in Place in the same room for long durations so that they can process and let go of the bad behavior. Depending on the severity of the issues I might initially have the dogs in muzzles, but this is the basic idea. Both of these dogs have a history of aggression and are very powerful. By planning, training, and executing this leadership exercise well Ive given these dogs the ultimate reward of inclusion and companionship.
