People often ask me what could have been my profession of second - TopicsExpress

People often ask me what could have been my profession of second choice. Without wasting a second to ponder, my reply has always been, “A singer”. From a very childhood, my attraction towards music was great. I can still be a slave to a person, who can sing, have music in his/her voice or hand. I don’t know the reason for such a strong desire, but I know it’s there! I do not sing or play, I only listen. And from that, I obtain divine pleasure. I may not know much grammar, but I love to hear! Somewhere, I read or heard the statistic that only 2% of the total population have suitable voice to croon. I envy these 2%! Though, I do not have that kind of faith or belief in the power of Almighty, remember once I requested HIM (I was too small then) to give me some melody in my voice. But as I grew up, I could see HE didn’t pay any attention to my request. So, I found out a viable alternative- to listen to music! I listen to all kinds of music. Among Hindustani classical vocals, I like Aamir Khan, Bade Gulam Ali Khan. In semi-classical, I like Manna Dey & Jagjit Singh. In light music, it’s Lata & Hemant. And of course, all kinds of ‘Rabindra Sangeet’ (remember, I am a Bengali), & folk.Unfortunately, my ears have not been tuned to Pan-Indian or Western music! It’s my personal disappointment! Music is my God! My soul! My religion! “Tomar kachhe e bor mangi, Moron hote jano jagi, ganer sure...” (“Request for a boon from you, I should get-up from my sleep, With the soulful tune of a song...”) Rabindranath
