People often say I bet you were glad to get some time off for the Holidays. This is said with kindness, and has to do with the fact that most of us take off for the holidays. I rarely do, but then again, I dont work all day except on rare occasions. I go past three hours I usually start to get diminishing returns. That said, I love writing and as a Christmas present to myself I wrote Christmas Eve morning before the gathering of the clan, as we give gifts on Christmas eve, and then I wrote very early Christmas morning. That was a gift I enjoyed, not a job. This is not to say its always easy, though those two work periods actually were easy. The words sailed out from shore and spread their sails and fled across the water with the canvas tucked full of wind. I could barely keep up. You never know when youre going to have the really fine moments, but I do know that when I write Im always happy to do it, and Im happy having done it. Not everyone is the same, but I do believe that the trick is habit. Doing it not because you have to, but because you want to. When I worked all manner of odd jobs I told myself if I can get out of bed and go to a job I dont really care for, or is at least not my idea of a life long career, then I can find a few minutes a day to write. It paid off.
