People say New York is a small town. Heres why: I am crossing 2nd Ave at 7th and see a sweet, good-looking young man from Fishtail. He works there and survived the purge. Bar back/food runner. We caught each others eye. He had shopping bags from a few stores including H and M. No older than 23. Chatted a bit and wished each other a Merry Christmas. I take F to 2nd to go to Veselka or Moishes but he said he takes the 6 from Astor Place. Not sure if he lives in E Village or just here to shop. A guy who works at bar/ restaurant on my block crossing the street in the E Village. I am a broken record but no place I have bend has the depth of community that Manhattan does. If you love people, theres nowhere else to satisfy that. If youre a solitary type, the suburbs and country are fine. But suburbia is murder for outgoing people, particularly those who dont work or raise kids. Solitude is nice sometimes. But community is essential. If you dont go to church or temple or anything, its very hard. WLA isnt a community in this way partly because theres no mass transit. And in LA, the only people without cars are truly suffering and struggling. Not so here. Charging up here. Glass of wine. Cafe Mocha. Coffee/wine/food. Regulars. People come in an cool barista knows their drink and name. And Prince, Van Halen, ZZ Top. 1980s music. Across from Moishes (rainbow cookie heaven). Headed back uptown to swim and lift. #EVillage #NYC #communityfeeling
