People see apathy as a terrible thing. They view it with mistrust - TopicsExpress

People see apathy as a terrible thing. They view it with mistrust and blame it for all the evils and ills that have gone unchecked in this world. They vilify it for the sheer lack of care that it embodies, and the sheer lack of willingness to do anything about any of the conditions that continue to plague humanity. However, it stands to reason that with so much care in the world, and so many people being capable of the same, now a few billion times over, at least in terms of the sheer masses of people everywhere, no matter how much concern and action born of it has existed, things have only gotten worse. This seems to indicate that while care is good, it has to be uniform or unified in its purpose. But with so many divisions in our societies, and so many identities to subscribe to in each passing moment, who is to say that our emotions are not misguided to make us care for things that we have no idea about. In a world that is focused on taking direction from leaders, human beings as fallible as ourselves, how can you compel people to care if they really do not. Or worse, is this care real or false, and if the latter, how is this worse than not caring at all? -RK
