People should wake up to the fact that a lot of rich people in this country get a lot of subsidies. Vast proportions of national income go in subsidies to the affluent, to the big corporations for doing nothing. They get it as an encouragement for doing things. These are the words of Prof. Guy Standing, one of the founders of BIEN (Basic Income Earth Network) Basic Income is a guaranteed minimum income that is given unconditionally to all people in a country. This idea was advocated by the smartest people in field of economics and 5 of them won the Nobel Price. Basic Income is the only way to prevent and eliminate poverty once for all. There are no more jobs for life, not enough jobs for everyone and its going to get worse duo to the automation. Its better than Social Security because it encourage people to work. The more a person works, the more money she/he will have. While with the current benefit system if you find a job you loose your benefits and stability. For this reason many people get trapped in the cycle of poverty. The cost introducing Basic Income is not higher than social security because it eliminates all the bureaucratic costs associated with social support. It also eliminates the costs derived from poverty, because it is the biggest cause of people going to prisons, mental illness, school failure and family problems.
