People tend to balk when I list lying as one of the most severe forms of violence, especially when I say that lying can be used in ways that make it worse than murder. Why do I hold this position? Because lying is how you can turn people into actual, real life zombies (in the Caribbean lore sense of the word) When you convince someone of enough lies (or sometimes just one lie that is large or critical enough) their bodies wander the real world, but their consciousness (their soul if you are in this sort of thing) is trapped in a separate fake world of misrepresented reality. Artisans of lies (propagandists, advertisers, cult leaders...) know how to craft the world of illusions in which they trap their victims consciousness in such a way that their bodies will serve the liar in the real world.
