“People want to do business on the Internet”. Rubbish, I - TopicsExpress

“People want to do business on the Internet”. Rubbish, I say. People want to buy stuff and transact on the internet, but people want to do business WITH PEOPLE. Organisations who do not take heed of this will soon find themselves in deep trouble and then wonder why. Sure, most of us have bought stuff from Amazon or similar online stores, that is probably no different from walking into any supermarket and buying fast moving consumer goods, but when it comes to company to company business, or where you need to procure services, you want to deal with a PERSON. Ask anyone who has sourced a handyman from the internet only to find that what was delivered is not what the online description said. Another way of looking at this may be to ask – What do you do when something goes wrong with an online transaction ? That is when you call or go to a company and you want to speak to a PERSON that can help you. Another example that I like to use is the online cycle shop example – you can buy a bicycle online, but when you need something serviced on it, you will take it to the shop with the best PEOPLE to service it. Do you have specific views about doing business online (without PEOPLE)? I would love to hear from you !
