People werent the only victims of the Oso mudslide. There are many - TopicsExpress

People werent the only victims of the Oso mudslide. There are many displaced animals, particularly horses, that are in foster homes and in need of feed. We are donating 1 ton of Chaffhaye and driving it to Arlington on Saturday. If you have any feed you would like to donate, well try to fit what we can in our truck/trailer. Following is the email from the Snohomish Conservation District. Ive been getting calls for help and calls from those who want to assist our farmer friends in the Oso Slide area after this devastating disaster. Weve several people who have taken in livestock that are in immediate need for hay, halters, lead ropes, wormers, etc. Snohomish Conservation District is willing to be a drop off point for supplies EXCEPT feed. Please let me know if/when you would like to drop off any of these items. The Arlington Cenex is willing to be a drop off point for hay and feed 360-435-3213. Further, a big issue is travel. I talked to Robert Nemnich (425-343-4241) who has a farm at White Horse, about five miles east of the slide area. He said one of the tougher issues is the time it takes to get down to Arlington and back with everything going on. He also said that the need is for horse feed, as he believes most of the cattle didnt make it, but there were also some that had sold their animals prior to the slide. If there are those of you who cant donate feed or funds, but are willing to facilitate the hauling of feed UP north he has a barn he can store it in for distribution. He is only about a mile from the Darrington Rodeo Grounds and there are also displaced animals there. If you or you know anyone with any available feed to help it would be awesome. As you can imagine, the people who have taken these animals in do not have the feed necessary to care for increased herds at this time. Alexis Blakely (425) 387-1323 is one of the gals who has taken some of these animals on. They are almost out of feed, every bale counts. Their owner did not make it thru the disaster and they are trying to do the best they can. If you have further questions, feel free to call me here at the Snohomish Conservation District at (425) 377-7003. If you have other supplies and you want to drop them off here at the office, I will coordinate distribution for you. This is only for LIVESTOCK supplies. The Red Cross is collecting other items, but they have been inundated so are asking for money in lieu of supplies so they can coordinate better for what is exactly needed. Also needed are gloves, shovels and such...drinks, granola bars, etc for the first responders as well. You can also make a donation directly to the OSO FIRE DISTRICT where all the funds will go directly to the needed victims. In this time of great sorrow, we are thinking of our friends and families during this difficult time. Again, please dont hesitate to call me, and please help spread the word best you can.
