People who are native to these lands- now known as America- are - TopicsExpress

People who are native to these lands- now known as America- are mad about the term Redskins, yet they still call themselves and one another Indian. That is one of the many issues our ancestors are up happy about, people no longer identifying themselves in their original tongues. For us to be categorized as a whole- by a name that is not even ours- is a form of current and covert cultural genocide. When we identify ourselves as Indians, not only are politically incorrect (making ourselves look like dumb-asses) but we become agents of a government who not too long ago attempted to abolish us and our ways, making ourselves agents of covert cultural genocide. For those of you who introduce yourselves by the original names of your ancestors, you know the feeling of empowerment it gives you. When we speak our languages, we heighten our indigenous consciousness, making us closer to the great spirit; because our languages resonate at a high spiritual frequency. Just like many indigenous peoples, our original names tie us to the land that nurtures us, it connects us to the rivers, mountains, plains, islands, lakes, oceans, coasts, creeks, deserts, swamps, woodlands, and valleys that host our people and allow us to prosper in this world. When people from other ethnicities ask what I am, I just tell them, Im Onk Akimel OOdham, Wah-Zah-Zhi, and Haudenosaunee
