People who are serious about their training should compete at some - TopicsExpress

People who are serious about their training should compete at some point. A lot of people feel too embarrased or nervous, because they compare themselves to professional athletes. They fail to realize that you only need to compare yourself to your former self, but if you insist on comparing yourself to others, look to people who are of roughly the same age as you, and of the same training age. Maybe you dont suck quite as bad as you think? The main advantage of competing is that you automatically improve your mental focus. When you have to perform at your best on a fixed date, you will treat your training more seriously. You will stop making excuses for not working hard, and you wont miss session unless you absolutelty have to. Also the competition atmosphere is likely to bring out reserves of strength or endurance that you didnt know you possessed. Thats why powerlifters and weightlifters differentiate in training planning between competition maxes and training maxes. And no, testing at the gym is not the same thing as competing. So stop procrastinating. Sign up for something!
