People who have been the victim of a crime in Hertfordshire at any time during the past year are being asked to take part in a new consultation launched today (October 1st) by the Police and Crime Commissioner David Lloyd. A new Victims’ Voice online survey has been unveiled by the Commissioner who is seeking victims’ experiences and views on the service they received from police and other support services. Commissioner Lloyd is committed to using his role to create a more victim-centred criminal justice system in Hertfordshire. But furthermore, the funding for victims’ services in Hertfordshire – which will be worth £1.2million a year – is being devolved in stages from central Government to his office and from next April he will be responsible for commissioning those support services locally. In order to prepare for this moment he is inviting anyone who has been a victim of crime in the past 12 months to take part in this survey, so their views can help shape the services and support provided to victims in the future. “My mission as Commissioner has been to put the victim at the heart of the criminal justice system,” said the Commissioner Lloyd. “I have spoken to and heard from many victims since coming into office but this is the chance for an even wider group of people to have their voices heard. “Victims’ views and experiences – both good and bad – will help me make sure that people who are victims of crime in the future get the service they need and would expect from police and support services. “There are several ways people can take part in the survey and it is also confidential so there is no concern about personal details being shared. It is important that people be as candid as possible so we can best shape the support that is provided to victims.” Victims of any kind of crime, from the less serious through to the gravest offences, can take part in the survey as long as the crime occurred in the past year. This applies even if they chose not report it to police or other relevant authority. There are many ways to take part in the consultation. The easiest way to have your say is by going to the online survey that can be found here victimsvoice-herts.info or by calling 0800 999 7499 (free from most landlines) to take part in an automated telephone survey. People who don’t want to take part in a formal survey but would nevertheless have their say can do so via email to this address [email protected]; however the telephone survey also has the facility to simply say what your experiences have been.
