People who knew Maghi & Pali had an advantage in the Mauryan - TopicsExpress

People who knew Maghi & Pali had an advantage in the Mauryan empire. Those who knew Sanskrit had an advantage in Gupta empire. Those who knew Persian enjoyed patronage in first few centuries of Muslim Rule. Those who knew Urdu had an advantage in the later centuries in the north. People who knew English had the benefit under British Raj. In Hyderabad which remained out of the Raj, Urdu still had the edge. Looking at south as a whole, Telugu had the advantage during the Pallavas rule from Kanchi (now in Tamil Nadu), Vijaynagar empire, Nayakas and Marathas rule from Tanjavur (Tamil Nadu). Post-independence Hindi took over from Urdu and English in the north, Telugu gave way to Tamil in down south, but took over from Urdu in Telangana. With Andhra-Telugu being resisted by Telangana-Telugu in Telangana today, and spread of Hindi nationwide, it could be Telugu losing out to Urdu or Hindi if this new state happens. Is Telugu losing when the union is gaining, in this nation building exercise?
