People who possess a particular version of a gene are smarter by an average of six IQ points, The Economist reports. To verify that the gene, dubbed KL-VS, is capable of increasing intelligence, scientists tested it in mice. The results, published online this week in Cell Reports, found that rodents with the genetic variation were better at navigation and memory tests. The finding may be used to create a drug that can enhance intelligence.
