People will always believe the worst about another person, a place, a culture, a religion, group, a community or what ever for one reason. It makes those people feel better. People want to believe they are so much better than theirs, their life has so much meaning, purpose, worth than theirs. My town is better than yours because.. My Children are better because.. my Job, My house, my holiday... my religion... etc.. A negative comment even myth or urban legend only serves to justify this thought. It is how the Lies surrounding Asylum seekers have thrived, it is why many believe the Lies surround many religions, many cultures and races. Its why even faced with the facts which prove we have been lied too, many still choose to deny the facts and believe the lie. To admit we were deceived would show we are not as clever as we thought. It serves to give many of us a feeling (unconsciously) of superiority towards to those in need, we feel we can save them, we know how to do...., we know how it works... etc.. it isnt out of the goodness of our hearts we do this it is to reinforce to those around us and ourselves we are still superior.... People can tell themselves otherwise, can deny as much as they like. But when you next donate to a charity or drop a coin in bucket for a homeless person seriously think to yourself how you feel in that moment and when asked why you gave? and you answer because I can! you will realise I was right...
