People with stallions: Perhaps its naive or ignorant of me to assume that you have your stallion because you think hes a fantastic representation of a type of horse that youd like to perpetuate, and, Im assuming (perhaps again ignorantly) maybe someday, profit from. If these two things are true, then it should stand that youve invested the two most important things anyone can invest into anything, into your stallion: Time and Money. Have you heard of the saying believe half of what you see, and nothing of what you hear ? Yes? If no, then now youve heard it. My point is: Im hoping youre not relying on peoples goodwill and word of mouth to pass along that your stallion is both a fantastic representation of the type of animal you feel should/would be passing along genetic material and something worth paying for if youre not going to invest in PROPERLY PROMOTING HIM. If people are only going to believe half of what they see anyway (through photos, videos and real life), then maybe you should INVEST in making that 50% count- in the form of good photography, proper grooming, proper conformation shots, decent backgrounds, websites, Facebook pages, videos, and information/video/photographs relevant to the discipline your stallion is being promoted for. Its wonderful to post the odd iPhone photo of your investment (read: stallion) playing in his paddock, or eating his grain, or even just being a horse... BUT. Do some research, look at other successful stallion owners/trainers/promoters and COPY THEM. SHAMELESSLY. Brush your horse occasionally. Invest in some decent fitting tack for him. Hire someone to ride him properly for you, if you cant. TAKE GOOD PICTURES (or! hire someone to!) GET GOOD VIDEO OF HIM DOING WHAT YOU SAY HE CAN DO. If youre at a loss of where to even start with something like this, geld your stallion immediately.
