People wonder why I spend so much time reading early modern - TopicsExpress

People wonder why I spend so much time reading early modern pamphlets of no great literary worth. Sometimes I find the strangest stuff in them. Here is a gem I found today in a chapter addressed to the prisoners mother: "I then almost for three years space, Your tender breasts did suck, In those days you did me embrace, And called me pretty Duck." ~ William Bagwell, 1644 (Pretty Duck? Huh? Who, as a grown man, goes out of their way to remind their mom about their breast feeding habits?)
