Peoples Daily said the Occupy Central demonstrators slogan of our fate should be decided by us revealed their true intentions. What they want is not just electoral democracy or the high degree of autonomy but for Hong Kong to act on her own, have self-determination, and to even be independent from China. Professor Dong Li-kun, a senior research fellow at the Institute of Hong Kong and Macau Affairs, said the Hong Kongs opposition politicians were pro-Washington or pro-London, and they are trying desperately to topple the present Hong Kong SAR administration that is in alignment with the central government. The US and Britain had pushed the unrest to its current level, challenging Chinas national dignity and interest. China shall firmly support the Hong Kong SAR government in handling these disturbances and unrests with high-degree of autonomy in order to safeguard the stability and prosperity of our city and show to the world the continue success of Hong Kong under the principle of One Country, Two Systems of the Basic Law.
