People’s Alliance Leader Kris Austin resumes duties People’s Alliance party leader Kris Austin is fully recuperated from the heart-valve replacement surgery he underwent in October and is ready and eager to take over the reins again. Austin, 34, made his first public political appearance on Thursday by participating in the weekly CBC Political Panel hosted by Terry Seguin to debate the shale gas file. The People’s Alliance leader followed up his debate by attending Question Period at the provincial legislature. Austin said it felt great to get out participate in the political spectrum again and provide New Brunswickers with a solid option to consider on next year’s election ballot. “After several days of downtime following the surgery I’ve been chomping at the bit to get back into the swing of things,” Austin said. “I’m really glad to be back and I’m looking forward to digging in and proving to the people of this province our party is something they should seriously consider.” Over the next several weeks, Austin plans to begin gearing up for riding activities in his home base of Fredericton-Grand Lake, regularly attend the provincial legislature and meet with interested candidates, community groups, and everyday New Brunswickers to build more awareness about the People’s Alliance. “We’re heading into the home stretch for the election,” Austin said. “It will be non-stop work from here on out.” While Austin was on the mend, People’s Alliance deputy leader Wes Gullison filled in the leadership role on an interim basis. “It’s fantastic to see Kris back at the head of things,” Gullison said. “I enjoyed filling in while he was out and now I’m just as happy to resume my supporting role and do what I can to be election-ready.” Gullison added he plans to continue to regularly attend the legislature as he has done since the session opened Nov. 5. Austin says the leadership role he saw Gullison take in his absence was incredibly inspiring and he plans to continue to follow that trend. The People’s Alliance leader also said he was extremely thankful for all the support he received while he was recuperating. “I really appreciate all the phone calls and e-mails from my family, friends and supporters during this time and I especially want to thank the nurses, doctors and other health care professionals on 5B North of the Saint John Regional Hospital for the amazing care they provided.” peoplesalliancenb/what-s-new/217-people-s-alliance-leader-kris-austin-resumes-duties
