Pepe Reina says he is here to stay - but admitted a desire to finish his career in his native Spain. Uncertainty over the 31-year-olds Anfield future persists after Napoli, who are interested in a permanent deal, refused to meet the £3.95million release clause in his contract. The Spanish international is training with the Reds in America following the conclusion of his loan spell in Serie A under the guidance of former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez. Reinas preferred destination would be Spain, but the former Barcelona stopper accepts he will have to wait for an opportunity in La Liga to arise. “I have a contract to respect with Liverpool. I’m training well and I am perfectly fine with my team-mates,” he told the Spanish radio station Cadena Ser. “I am here to stay. I have not talked to Brendan Rodgers. I’ve been here for only four days and I am just thinking of training to my best and getting back into shape. At the moment all the big Spanish teams are covered in my role, so I see it as very difficult to return to Spain. “It’s normal though that over the years you want to return to where you came from, so we’ll see. When Rafa Benítez signed me at Liverpool in 2005, I accepted and said that I would be back a little later in Spain. He replied: ‘We’ll see.’ “It’s amazing that 10 years later I am still away from Spain and that it was he who brought me to Napoli last year.” The Reds expect negotiations regarding the Spanish stoppers future to drag on until transfer deadline day in late August. Although a relatively low fee for a keeper of his calibre a salary of around £100,000 a week appears to have put off any potential suitors. But Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers said: “He is back in training and working. “Pepe made it clear last year where he is at. He is working well and there has been no real conversation as yet. He is just working hard to get fit and we will see what happens over the next few weeks.” Napoli feel a compromise will eventually be reached, but it won’t be soon as Liverpool will invite other offers for the goalkeeper. #adminbally
