Pepes on the River story #8: The Rio Grande was only 2 meters from the stage at Pepes on the River and Mexico only 25. One night when we were playing I looked to my left and I saw five guys swimming across the river trying to reach the US. In a matter of seconds the river was swarming with Border Patrol Agents in boats and helicopters trying to stop the aliens. One of the five guys made it to America and started to run towards La Lomita Chapel, about 500 yards from the river. A skinny little girl dancing in front of the stage suddenly pulled a badge and a humongous gun bigger than her skinny arms and yelled to the guy FREEZE! and started chasing him, pistol in her hand. She caught the guy before he made it to the levy. Then the border patrol agents came to Pepes with flashlights to arrest anybody whose cloth wasnt dry. As I said, I got the best seat in the house to observe human drama...
