Per a discussion I had with my Level 3s tonight, here are a couple of examples of Egyptian kids performing the style of street dancing that is popular in urban areas in Egypt right now. This dancing is done to a particular kind of shaabi music called mahragan (mahragan means festival). Youll hear both this music and this dance referred to as shaabi - this is accurate, since shaabi just means popular - but its worth bearing in mind that the word shaabi can be (and is) used to refer to many styles of folk/popular music and dance, not just this one. These kids are tearing it up! You can see the hip hop influence. https://youtube/watch?v=ypgaStqnw_c https://youtube/watch?v=p_xn3l5eow0 https://youtube/watch?v=3QkImWCXX8k
