Per our request, Google presented their CS First After-School Computer Programming Club program to our school districts Technology Committee. SBEF is socializing this program to explore interest for potential implementation. Each club session would be theme based (music video, gaming development, fashion, etc.) and each theme will provide 8 days of 1.5hr meetings (perhaps 2 days/week for 4 weeks). If we gain district & school acceptance, and then raise the needed money and find a few volunteers to help (no coding experience needed), then we might initially launch a pilot at Parkside for our 6-8th grade kids, but if there is interest, we could scale up to multiple clubs across all of our schools. These club sessions are very low cost, fun for kids and give them exposure to computer science.
