Perceptions turn upside down and inside out in the wilds of Tasmania to find world-class pinot noir vineyards, fantastic farm produce, insane chefs, sophisticated galleries and a contemporary art museum (MONA), which if plopped next to MoMA or the Musee dOrsay would stand tall. The supposed Tasmanian boondocks are actually an elegant gourmands paradise. Who knew? And this perceptions-turned-on-its-head encounter has happened so often during this ongoing trip (where the reality of a place is so different than the notion of what to expect) that Ive started wondering where initial perceptions come from anyway, and how they are so often off the mark.
