Perch & People!!! My recent visit to Sinhgad Valley was horrible one. Here are my observations – 1.Bird activity was excellent. But ‘Human Activity’ across the stream was overpowering the same. 2.Birds I could see – Asian paradise, Verditor, Red Throated, Rose finches, Bulbuls, Yellow throated sparrows, White eyes, Plum headed parakeets,Doves,Babblers,Drongos etc 3.All these birds I could see without leaving my place. All I did is sat quietly for 3 hrs at a place. 4.Sadly none of the birds were comfortable with morning bath due to some highly active people. 5.As it was Monday, there were only 5-6 highly active people. I could imagine the scenario on Weekends. I request all the birders - It’s a very good thing that you are becoming interested in birding or bird photography as it will directly or indirectly create awareness among yourself. I do not mean to discourage you but here are some things you would like to give a try – A. Do not wear white, red, yellow, orange clothes. Try to use mild colors camouflaging with the surroundings. B. Before photographing, try to observe birds and their behavior. This will make you understand and anticipate bird behavior which is of tremendous help for bird photography. Visit a place couple of times, observe and then photograph. You will certainly get good shots. C. While birding near stream in Sinhgad Valley, sit along the stream and not across. Sit quite and patiently. Don’t run behind the birds. Birds usually wander from one to other end across the stream. Your sitting across will disturb them and they may leave the area for that day or may shift to other place. Please do not do that. One guy was literally running behind the birds from one end to other of stream. Please avoid this. Guys, please be patient and do not expect you will get all the birds in one outing. Happy Birding!!!
