Perfection But our High Priest offered himself to God as a single - TopicsExpress

Perfection But our High Priest offered himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins, good for all time. Then he sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand. There he waits until his enemies are humbled and made a footstool under his feet. For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy. Hebrews 10:12-14 NLT I hear a lot of people answer, Great! when asked how they are doing. At church this is often offered with a huge smile. I know enough about peoples lives to realize that many of these claims to be great are highly exaggerated. Being truthful and authentic is a challenge. Nobody really wants to hear about all 45 pains we have from head to toe; few of us would be able to deal with a church narthex confession of a woman who thinks her son is smoking cocaine and her husband might enjoy bringing the baby sitter home too much. That being said, we all desire more authenticity from others. We also want to be real. Brene Brown suggests that it takes practice. To be authentic, we must cultivate the courage to be imperfect--and vulnerable. She sounds like an Adlerian. On my many two hour drives home from Adler University, I had any number of nights of pondering the idea that I had never really seen being imperfect as desirable. Brene Brown and Adler had it right: it takes courage to be imperfect; at least it takes courage to admit it. I had to come to grips with the price I paid to put up a facade of having it all together. Until those midnight drives I did not realize how much I avoided because I knew I couldnt do them well. For example, I stayed away from volleyball because I played it so badly. Doing only the things one does well cuts out a lot of fun. Jesus, the irony of putting in so much effort to appear perfect is apparent when I read your Word. We dont need to achieve our own perfection. You did it for us! Not only did you make me perfect--you are making me holy. Thank you. No matter how hard I tried I couldnt pull off holiness and perfection. Deanna, no one can. The whole Old Testament points to sins power over man. The New Testament shows that the only way to perfection is through me.
