Performance VS. Presence Matt 14:27...But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. KJV The foundation of a faith that brings pleasure to The Father begins not with His performance but His presence (Heb. 11:6). In the scripture above, Jesus is responding to His disciples in the middle of a storm...in the dark of night. They were there because He had requested that they go ahead of Him while He sent a multitude of people that He had been ministering to. They were there due to His directions. There is an assumption of favorable circumstances when obeying the voice of God but adversaries will be dispatched when your assignment is revealed. The promise of God is that He will never assign you without assisting you. The danger of having your focus divided is that you can miss Him when your reference point of His favor and existence is based upon His performance versus His presence. Before the storm is stilled...Jesus challenges His followers to draw upon the peace of His presence before the performance of His power. Be mindful of not justifying who God is by only what He does. Proper order in any relationship is to value the person first...and their performance second. Jesus literally said to His disciples...Be of good cheer...I AM. ~ David Pinson
