Perhaps the best writer covering the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, - TopicsExpress

Perhaps the best writer covering the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Michael Yon was on the ground, under fire, with American and British troops for years. He has no financial connections to any corporate mother-ship and consequently can write what he sees without worrying about what the editors and owners might think. Or do. He is fiercely independent and fairly fearless. This is a 2008 article from the New York Times about him. Hes been living in Thailand for the past few years (married a Thai woman) and covered political events in Thailand far better than CNN, NYT, or any of the other major venues who used experts who hadnt even visited Thailand during the coup. Former Special Forces, Michael has the heart of a brother, and writes with the eyes of a warrior. Unlike Michael Herr in Vietnam, Michael is both an exceptional writer and a warrior. Check him out. Let us know what you think. He still has a blog that is worth following, covering major stories from the mid-east to the far-east, and sometimes about what is happening in the U.S. You may be surprised how closely his feelings about these things are to yours. Sometimes they will be different. Thats what its all about, though, isnt it? **Dapar**
