Perhaps the greatest threat to peace in the twenty-first century is the rise of fundamentalism in the worlds major religions. - Christian pastor Brian Zahnd Its funny how, even at this age, I still worry about being shunned by other believers when I confess that I believe in practicing love towards all people (Matt. 5:44-48), that were all part of one human family (Acts 17:26), and that love compels us to fight for social justice (Matt. 25:31-46) and peace on earth (Isa. 9:6-7, Luke 2:14). In a lot of churches this is seen as heresy or, even worse, an antichrist spirit. The life and teachings of Jesus have been so twisted that when someone quotes him accurately, theyre accused of being seduced by the evil spirits of this world. Weve turned away from the God on the cross and embraced a conquering Jesus who blesses and sanctifies our preoccupations with wealth, warfare, and power. Too long have I made my dwelling among those who hate peace (Psalm 120:6).
