Perhaps the stupidest thing Ive read this school year came from a Philippine senator. According to Tito Sotto, there is no such thing as medical marijuana. He just basically denied the existence of something that has helped recover hundreds of lives in continental United States and Europe (read more about Charlottes Web, a marijuana strain that is low in tetrahydrocannabinol). Moreover, he is responsible for inserting the provision that may criminalize internet libel, a huge step backwards for Philippine democracy. While the rest of the world is taking steps to decriminalize libel, here we are taking a step backwards. The irony is the provision was made by a plagiarist whose pride is too high to acknowledge his wrongdoings. Oh, and hes also had tendencies in abusing his power as a senator (more on that later). Call me elitist but only stupid people vote for someone this stupid into public office. However, I also have a tendency to forget the reality about most Filipino people. Theyd rather have some guy who made some jokes on some defunct TV show with a bunch of other famous people serve as a senator.
