Perk me up Best songs - A-Z - Round 1 – Today’s letter N. No Matter What by Badfinger. Recorded in 1970 and was a hit that spanned late December 1970 and January of 1971 for its biggest charting success during those months. This has gotta be one of the catchiest and best examples of the perfect mix of pop and rock that ever got heard on AM charts. Another good example might be Go All The Way by The Raspberries but I think this track is even stronger from beginning until end. It covers just anything a songwriter could be interested in putting into a song. I could go into a checklist and show you how Pete Ham used nearly every great trick in the book here to varying degrees and yet the song has a natural smooth hook/riff that flows perfectly to exactly where you think it should. Great track and it’s got a feel like something that could have made its way onto Abbey Road by The Beatles. This IS a song worthy of having a Lennon-McCartney credit to it and yet, The Beatles let this slip right through their fingers and Pete Ham and his group Badfinger brought it to us instead. Thanks for inventing this sprite optimistic feel good ditty, Pete. I love it. youtube/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=Kz4uWgdRJ6I
