“Perkins Offers Fresh Start for Monroe County” **VOTE PLEASE As a 23-year law enforcement veteran and now retired police lieutenant, I have been fortunate enough to have known and worked with people who have exhibited a high degree of moral fiber. With that said, I am very pleased to offer my endorsement of one such person, Mr. Scott Perkins, who is a candidate for Monroe County sheriff. He is a person who I strongly believe embodies the essence of character. In my opinion, Mr. Perkins is the person best suited to hold the title of sheriff. Because of my personal knowledge of this man, I will hereinafter refer to him as “Scott”. Scott, a lifetime resident of Monroe County, has by all measure exhibited characteristics that are essential to the making of a notable community leader. Above all else, he has distinguished himself as a selfless person while in the performance of his duties. He possesses real-time knowledge of public concerns from a field operations perspective and not from an armchair position. Simply stated, he is not predisposed from having previously held a political office. What a great advantage for Monroe County. Scott has pledged to remain available to his constituents and not from the detached location of an office. I can trust a man who vows to be a working sheriff versus a person who is aloof and seemingly out of touch. Ordinarily, longtime administrators have innate tendencies at fostering antiquated ideologies. The agency, therefore, becomes stagnant and the community suffers as a direct result of this type of posturing. It quickly becomes about power struggles and political influences rather than real solutions. Voters demand and, quite frankly, are entitled to results. I have known Scott my entire life and at times consulted with him throughout my law enforcement career. The one constant with Scott is that he has always remained true to his word and loyal to his calling in life. Quite simply, he is the most approachable person I have ever met. With that said, it is obvious to me that Scott’s character has remained unchanged throughout both his professional and personal life. This is a trait of a person who can be relied upon. I leave you with the following thought: Leadership is a potent combination of strategy and character. But if you must be without one, be without the strategy. —Norman Schwarzkopf Ronald R. Nowak, Jr. Nevada Police Lieutenant-Retired Monroe County Native
