Permaculture Tip of the Day: Most farmers and some gardners - TopicsExpress

Permaculture Tip of the Day: Most farmers and some gardners know that artificial fertilizers are never in need, especially when fertilizer can be grown. Plant leguminous cover crop in your beds for a season and then mulch on top of them when ready to plant seedlings. Or plant legumes in between tree rows in an orchard to saturate the ground with natures nutrition. This will yield more nutrient density in the food than organic farming or gardening. And something special for our temperate climate permaculturists, the very beautiful and annual bluebonnet is a Texas native and a great green manure/legume that is beautiful, aesthetic, and fixes nitrogen and nutrients in the soil.
