Personal Commentary 080513 Restoring Temple Ruins In Me (1 of 5) By Ronnie Tejada Trying to walk by the Spirit, while gratifying the desires of the flesh, can ruin the temple in me (Matthew 12:25). The bible said, it’s impossible for man to walk by the Spirit, and at the same time gratifying the desires of the flesh (Galatians 5:16). They are contrary to one another. Sprit and flesh do not mix. In Matthew 12:25, Jesus said to the Pharisees, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand”. In the context of this verse, Jesus knew the thoughts of the Pharisees (amazing about Jesus), as they accusing Him that He healed the man who was demon-possessed, blind and mute, by Beelzebul, the prince of demons (verse 24). He told them that Satan would not drive out demons, for he will be divided against himself (verse 26). He added, “But if it is by the Spirit of God that I drive out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you” (verse 28). It’s only by the Spirit of God that we can function the way we suppose to function as a followers of Christ. We recognized that we still battle with our flesh everyday (Romans 7:15), at the same time that the Spirit of God is dwelling within us. Which of the two is leading your life everyday, the flesh or the Holy Spirit? We cannot say that we are living a spirit-filled life, while at the same time we are satisfying the desires of our flesh. Either we are led by the Spirit, or by our flesh. Paul said, “For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want” (Galatians 5:17). Since Satan would not drive out demons, we cannot expect our flesh to say “no” to the flesh. Only the Spirit of God through the power of His Word can rebuke the desires of our flesh. Jesus said to you and I, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23). “Denying myself” may also means denying my flesh everyday. And “taking up my own cross” may also means facing the challenges and struggles everyday, wrestling with my flesh, so the Spirit overtake and be in control in my life. I don’t want the temple in me to be ruined, and so my heart should never be divided. I must always be in agreement with the Spirit and not to give even a small chance to my flesh. Do not say, it’s okay to watch rated movies, to go to the casino or nightclub with non-believer friends. Please, do not tell me that you can handle yourself, because nobody can. Not unless if you surrender the full control of your life to the Holy Spirit, or God (by His sovereignty) caught you to a situation, for His purpose, and for His glory. I know, the bible said, “God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear” (1 Corinthians 10:13). I totally agree with this verse. But the bible also said that God will give us wisdom as we ask (James 1:5), so we can discern if the test is from Him, or the temptation is from the devil who prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). My friends, from the same context of Matthew 12:25, Jesus warns us that no one can fool the Holy Spirit. He knows your heart. He knows if you are with Him or against Him. Jesus said in Matthew 12:30-32, “Whoever is not with Me is against Me, and whoever does not gather with Me scatters. And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come”.
