Personal curation is a theme I often find myself returning to. The digital age allows us to curate our own personal museums filled with subjective influences; indeed ....aesthetic curation is now a widely popular, socially accepted, and venture-backed phenomenon. But does it matter if your museum gets visitors? For some, it matters enormously: The fact that these sites are social means you know whether people are paying attention to the aesthetic identity you’re working so hard to craft. I am a dud when it comes to promoting my digital museum. I use Pinterest for my own archiving purposes and only recently noted that I have followers on certain boards over there. Yay, me? I dont use Tumblr or Instagram, and Ive yet to be seduced to regularly tweet. I guess Im less interested in crafting and maintaining a public image than I am in archiving and exploring personal influences and ponderings, and occasionally sharing them here and on my blog. Still, my inner sociologist is fascinated by how we use these many platforms to fashion and disseminate our public images. My adolescent self would have been overwhelmed, so Im glad I only had a blank book to record quotes and a bedroom wall to work with back in the day! nymag/thecut/2013/10/our-tumblrs-our-teenage-selves.html
