I am genuinely working to see if we cant experiment with new approaches to policing, in my current hometown of Carrboro, NC.** Approaches that place less reliance on suppression, and more on containment and negotiation. This is the context in which I am advocating for new policing approaches. By all means be angry. Do not be ignorant. More than 32,000 people die each year in the US by gun violence. Some 600 of those are gun deaths by policemen. Another 43, death of policemen by gun violence. [** Which reminds me. Its been a while since the first meeting on policing in Carrboro, hosted by our Board of Aldermen and the Carrboro Police Chief. A number of us called for a citizens task force to be created, to consider this subject in greater detail. Not heard anything since. Ill write formally.
