Pervez Khattak chairs meetings on law & order, regularization of non-custom paid vehicles, irrigation and mineral development departments Handout No.1 Peshawar 19th November 2014 KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has directed for regularizing the affairs of non-custom paid vehicles, smuggling and theft of vehicles, illegal business of spare-parts and cut automobiles as well as checking the threats of crimes, law & order and other problems and issues emanated because of it. He while opposing levy of any tax on the people of Malakand in this pretext asked the divisional, district, police administration, excise & taxations and customs departments to evolve stringent modus operandi in this regard so that the people are benefitted on one hand while no ugly situations crop up on the other hand. He was chairing high level meeting at CM Secretariat Peshawar that besides reviewing law & order situation in the province also threadbare discussed the problems being created due to non-custom paid vehicles in remote part of the province wherein necessary decision were taken. Provincial Minister for Excise & Taxation Mian Jamsheduddin Kakakhel, Chief Secretary Amjad Ali Khan, Inspector General Police Nasir Khan, Durrani, Secretary Home Syed Akhtar Ali Shah, Secretary Excise & Taxation Dr. Raheel Ahmad Siddique, Secretary Law Muhammad Airfeen Khan, Principal Secretary to CM Muhammad Ishfaq Khan, divisional commissioners, customs officials and other concerned authorities attended the meeting. The meeting after detailed review of the situation decided that instead of temporary registering non-custom paid vehicles at police stations of related union councils would be permitted by the concerned district administration in collaboration with excise department that would be restricted to the concerned division only. It was agreed that such step would reduce possibilities of crimes and terror incidents to a great extent. It was also decided to fix reward money for whistle blowers who help in identifying the stolen and smuggled vehicles. It was also decided to vacate the Bannu Sports Stadium for sports activities and tournaments while the mattes of IDPs and distribution of ration be shifted to the already vacant building and grounds of Bannu Airport. Chief Minister made clear that IDPs were our esteemed guests and the recent untoward incidents occurred during distribution of ration among Wazirstan affectees have made us upset and gloomy. Hence he said it was pre-requisite to make more better arrangements for facilitating them. He agreed with IG Police recruit police jawans from amongst IDPs to manage their ration distribution and other internal managements in discipline manner after giving them proper training. He said that this step would enable our regular police to focus attention on overall law & order in the district and minimize the dangers of breach to peace anywhere. Pervez Khattak while chairing another meeting of streamlining the affairs of irrigation and mineral development departments, decided that mineral development department would be paid compensation amounts of the construction material by the contractors and irrigation department where dams were being constructed. He said it would increase income of the department and schemes of scientific exploration and exploitation of mineral wealth would be expedited. He regretted that mineral development department was looted in the past in the pretext of mining while precious mineral reservoirs were illicitly stolen. However he said such a corruption would never be allowed in future while all the resources of the province including mineral wealth would be utilized transparently for well being of the province and its people. He said there were so many problems and complications in the past due to vague in the laws that also caused delay in the developmental schemes besides slowing the govt machinery but all such bottlenecks would be removed besides improving and streamlining the system then. He directed the ministers not to defend mistakes f their departments but instead rectify it and bring maximum transparency there so that the system could run with success. Provincial Minister for Mineral Development ZiaUllah Afridi, Minister Irrigation Mehmood Khan, Secretary Mineral Development Mian Waheedud din, Secretary Irrigation Muhammad Akbar Khan, DG Mines Dr. Liaqat Ali, DG Small Dams Engr. Muhammad Iqbal and other concerned authorities attended the meeting.
