An eminent writer of Urdu, Late Mukhlis was a selfless lover of Kashmir, its culture and ethos which he depicted through his writings. His book “Zindagi ke rung” is one of the finest books eloquently describing various facets of Kashmir and its inhabitants. Through his another book “Sur shehnai key,” his critical analysis of Rafiq Raz’s “Nai chi nalaan,” Late Mukhlis contributed immensely in communicating the richness and literary magnificence of Kashmiri language to the Urdu world. As an Urdu columnist Late Mukhlis portrayed and promoted Kashmiri culture and values in his own distinct style. Despite being a renowned Urdu writer, all along his life he evaded publicity and silently but tirelessly kept working selflessly for Urdu language and literature, in which his theme is Kashmir. His death is loss not only to Urdu language and literature, but also to Kashmiri culture and ethos as well.
