Pet Theft Awareness week starts today running from 14th March until 21st March please share this post and make your family and friends aware of what is happening out there. About Pet Theft Awareness Week With the ever increasing theft of dogs, horses, and parrots, the time has come to draw the attention of pet owners to be more vigilant about the security of their pets and animals. The launch of the second ever “Pet Theft Awareness Week” is from the 14th March to the 21st. Pet Theft Awareness Week has been organised in conjunction with a number of contributors to raise awareness of the growing trend of pet theft in the UK. It is a non-profit organisation with the aim of helping people take actions which could stop it happening to them. Also we want to campaign for much stronger sentences for anyone involved with pet theft. Why the need? The awareness week is being highlighted by the case of Angel, a German Shorthaired Pointer owned by Dawn Maw from Barnsley. Dawn was loading her dogs into her car after exercising them in a local park when Angel was snatched and driven away in a white van. The week will be internet based and ‘Pet Theft Awareness’ have produced a number of hard hitting posters on the theme of animal theft on their especially dedicated website pettheft.co.uk. They have listed preventative measures that pet owners can take as well as a number of “things to do” during the week to prompt awareness. Supporters will be encouraged to print out the posters and post them in supermarkets and shops. The week is being supported by a number of related organisations and businesses. Backed by VioVet, an online veterinary medication and pet supplies store;“Several of our customers have had their pets stolen and we are noticing this more and more. It is a heartbreaking crime and we are happy to support this initiative. ” says VioVet’s Richard Jordan. Dogs, horses, parrots and cats are the higher risk pets being taken due to their value. There is also a rise in dogs being stolen from outside shops or grabbed from walkers. A new trend has seen people are even being attacked for their pets. Owners are even reporting that they are being blackmailed for extortionate amounts of cash for the safe return of a much loved family member. Or they never see their loved pet again. A pet is part of the family and losing any family member is heart-breaking. Lets not make it easy for the thieves. Please support us by highlighting this initiative.
